How Budweiser is related to Obama and a man head butting a crotch

Those connections must seem really weird to you. I can tell you now, it won't make much more sense when I explain them. Let's just get into the commercial first.

Most people from Europe, like me, will know the exclamation 'Whassaaaaaaaaaaaaap' from Scary Movie. I'm guessing most Americans know it from the actual source, this Budweiser commercial:

Budweiser released this iconic commercial in 1999 and it ran until 2002. The humour is what made this commercial effective to Budweiser. They barely even name the brand, except from the final screen, obviously. 'Whassap' itself got linked to the brand and fueled by popular culture the phrase stayed.

Head butting a crotch?
The popular culture is where this link comes in. Obviously the phrase was used and gained even more popularity from Scary Movie, after that, the Simpsons did it! It was all pretty normal until wrestling duo 'The Dudley Boyz' started incorporating this into their signature move. When their opponent was down on the ground, one of the two held open his legs while the other climbed on the ropes. With one on the ground and the other on the ropes, they both stuck out their tongues and did the Whassup head shake. D-Von, the wrestler up on the rope would then drop down and head butt the opponents' crotch. THIS man head butted people in the crotch.

Back on topic
As with a lot of great commercials, there is a sequel. Cadbury's second attempt at the drumming gorilla wasn't as successful. The sequel of the Budweiser commercial however, was even better than the first one. Sadly, it wasn't done by Budweiser. The sequel features the same actors. The sequel also features the army, losing your home, losing all your money, storms, broken bones and a suicide. The goal of the ad is not to sell beer, it's to make people vote for Obama. Crazy, right?
